Paul DEMARIA. All images from the exhibition will be uploaded Friday 7th October
Exhibition Date:
05 October - 28 October 2011
Paolo Demaria Guaitamacchi was born into an Italian family with a strong artistic heritage. His father Bruno (1931-2005) was an accomplished painter, and mother Magda a celebrated ceramicist.
Although Italian, Paul was born and spent a part of his childhood in England. He studied at the Liceo Artistico di Brera and later the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Brera in Milan (Academy of Fine Art). It was however, under the guidance and influence of his father that Paul decided to dedicate his career to painting; they shared a love of England and a deep and intense passion for their art.
Known for his ‘plein-air’ panoramic landscapes and rich still-life work, Paul is committed to capturing a fast impression and the ‘fugitive’ moment. All landscapes are painted on the spot as this allows him to reflect the light and spirit of the scene.
After several recent visits to England to paint, the work in this exhibition includes some quintessential panoramic landscapes of Suffolk And, for those who know the picturesque and sensational Lake Como in Italy, you will no doubt appreciate the splendour and romance he manages to convey in the wonderful scenes of the lake and his beloved Bellagio.
Paul Demaria’s paintings are exquisite examples of an artist exploring the balance between a committment to tradition and pursuing challenges that come with painting fresh subjects and new settings. He never compromises on the quality and presentation of his work and we are delighted he is exhibiting here at Highgate. Laurie MacLaren and Diana Lanham
