Tim BENSON ROI
Tim's passion for landscape has underlined all his work during the past few years, His highly successful exhibitions in Highgate, and his subsequent shows at Raphael Valls in St James’s, Thompsons City and Hay Hill in Mayfair have established Tim as a notable and collectable landscape artist, and he continues to develop in this vein. Tim has just been accepted as a member of the Royal Society of Oil Painters.
‘Over the last couple of years my attention has fallen on the flatlands of East Anglia in particular Norfolk and Suffolk. It is no coincidence that this is where both Constable and Seago made some of their most powerful works, as the combination of impossibly vast skies and abrupt verticals in a sometimes overwhelmingly horizontal landscape creates views that have a stark beauty found nowhere else. Armed with some world-beating vistas and paint I sought to add a modern twist to a well documented corner of the country, whilst retaining the fundamentals of draughtsmanship and colour balance that came so effortlessly to the great East Anglian painters.’
Recently Tim has concentrated on Portraiture. His seemingly effortless brushstrokes have paid dividends in this area. His presentations of characters such as Michael Palin and Brian Cox are testament to his talent and understanding of colour, light, shape, form and representation in a uniquely creative and expressive manner.

TIM BENSON Aspects of a Subcontinent
May 31st - June 17th 2006
Highgate Fine Art
"The Karakoram is one of the most inaccessible environments on the planet if not the most beautiful. It is the stark majesty of its summits and canyons that captures my imagination. Painting the ever changing light (however inadequately), as it plays on sheer rock walls or glaciers is my motivation. In contrast whether it be the colourful bazaars, escapism of the desert or the ethereal beauty of the crumbling 'havelis' that inspires you, Rajasthan is an artists dream. I felt that a series of paintings of subjects on a more human scale would perfectly complement the 'vastness' of the Karakoram. The cities of Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Agra each offer their own insight into the Indian life and the endless painting opportunities that come with it." Tim Benson
