Teresa LAWTON
Teresa Lawton was born in Poole,Dorset. She travelled extensively, lived in Greece for a period of time, then moved back to the UK 1982.
Teresa studied at Bournemouth College of Art and went on to receive a Fine Art Degree at Winchester University in 1994.
Painting is now her full-time occupation, and Teresa gathers inspiration from the Ancient sites around Wimborne, which she has visited since childhood, also the industries surrounding the busy working harbour in Poole. The open beaches and the untamed coastline of the Isle of Purbeck have been an endless sources of information and inspiration.
Being less interested in representation, Teresa paints instinctively from her personal perspective, exploring the simplifications of form, space and colour. The Dorset landscape naturally stirs strong connections with her past, and she is convinced that this emotional response to her surroundings is one of the most important parts of her painterly development.
Teresa has exhibited extensively in the UK since 1997, and her work is in many noteable private collections both in England and overseas. She also has shown work in the RA Summer Exhibition, New York Art Fair and the London Art Fairs.
