Roy PETTITT

Although he had been painting since a child,Roy chose to train as a biologist at Queen Mary College, then worked as an industrial research worker in places as far afield as Argentina, California and Spain, thus fuelling his desire to travel.

Upon returning to England, Roy studied art at the Chelsea, Heatherley and Putney Schools of Art and once again embarked on some extensive painting trips in France, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, India and Turkey. Then going on to travel and paint in Cuba and make frequent visits to Venice and Barbados.

However, as you will see in this collection of work many recent paintings are of English beaches especially in Sussex, Devon and Cornwall where light and atmosphere are a constant inspiration - recalling many happy days spent on the beach! Roy’s work takes you on a holiday, you will notice there are no grey days, or turbulent skies, rather the ambience of a French cafe, the heat rising from the base of the Pyramids, the bustle of a busy market street or the quintessential summer picnic.

Roy is a keen member of the Chelsea Art Society; London Sketch Club; Chelsea Arts Club and when back at home he enjoys working from one of a number of Chelsea studios to work on his figure studies, a number of which are part of this exhibition. He also receives portrait commissions.
