Rowland SUDDABY ( 1912 - 1972 )
Rowland SUDDABY (1912-72) was a prodigy; his first great patrons were the American millionaire sisters Guggenheim, who gave him a show at their Wertheim Gallery in 1935. He showed the following year at The Redfern and then with Leger. Eventually he became Curator at Gainsborough’s House, Sudbury,Suffolk - which was near his home.
The Cottage Interior by Lamplight shows the kind of blissful comfort found in so many East Anglian cottages prior to the arrival of electricity.
