Malcolm BOWMAN

Malcolm Bowman is a Yorkshireman who obtained a Fine Art degree at Kings College, Durham University. He was under the tutelage of Victor Pasmore( 1908 - 98 ) and Richard Hamilton in the 1960’s; - and Pasmore’s influence led him directly to Camden Town - Bowman’s undergraduate dissertation was entitled “ Contrasts and contradictions in the paintings and opinions of Walter Richard Sickert ”. This was also the inspiration for his major “ Fin de Siecle ” exhibition at Wakefield Art Gallery in Autumn, 1999, and also for his whole series of Edwardian style works.
His particular love of colour as a prime symbol in painting and his expressed belief in allowing each story to unfold on the canvas, as he says 'without too much interference' is reflected in his work, so we are very pleased to have him in Highgate.
