James DONOVAN

James Donovan - South Wales’s young star.

His first exhibition at Cardiff's Albany Gallery in 1997,sold out at the Preview. Then, his solo show 'Procession’ at Newport Museum and Art Gallery, with an elegant Catalogue introduction by Sandra Jackaman, and a wonderful, poetic essay by Professor Dai Smith, marked him out as the new rising star of South Wales painting.
He began showing with us in 1998 and now has a good London following. His Highgate 2000 show was a great success, and his work is now in some very good collections. The story-telling, enigmatic quality of his paintings is especially charming, with the constant question ‘what next?'
