Howard WOLF
Wolf has just returned from yet another of his regular excursions to Provence and in the habitual painter’s eye those familiar scenes never fail to prompt new responses. His new collection of landscapes and village scenes from Vaucluse - some of which he has visited in previous years, have a nice fresh approach built into them. Wolf has also captured some more of the village atmospherics and his new studies of people enjoying the Sunday market bustle of Isle - sur - la - Sorgue should appeal to many. His absolute love of drawing and his firm belief that drawing and painting equal one another is proven by the inclusion of a large number of works on paper, from figure studies to detailed observations of the villages and landscapes of Provence in charcoal, watercolour, and acrylic.
The figure continues to be a focus of Howard’s work and his figures are more closely observed. It is his skill of interpretation, for he then takes these carefully studied poses and seems to effortlessly transpose them to create relaxed and fluid compositions - as seen in the large work 'Figures dancing'.
