Gwyther IRWIN
Born in 1931 on the North Cornish coast. In 1949 he studied painting under Roger Hilton and then on to the Central School of Art and Design between 1951-54. He later became visiting lecturer at Chelsea School of Art, Hornsey College of Art, Bath Academy of Art, in 1969 appointed Head of Fine Art, University of Brighton and in 1975 Head of University of Brighton School of Art.
High Profile shows included 'British Painting in the Sixties' 1963; Venice Biennale 1964; Carnegie International Biennale 1967; international Kunstmesse of Basel and Dusseldorf 1973.
His work is now in The Tate Gallery, London; The Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice; Yale University Art Gallery, Connecticut; Museum of Modern Art New York; Albright-knox Art Gallery, Buffalo and the Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh.
Highgate Fine Art first showed work by Gwyther Irwin in 'Galerie Valerie' at Patisserie Valerie, Knightsbridge in 1991.
