Bruno wrote this intoduction to his 2005 show:
"Since my last Highgate exhibition I have revisited some of my best-loved places where plein-air painting is an enticing experience.
On returning to Venice, Tuscany or East Anglia, I feel unable to recollect former involvements, as new sensations always take over. There is no instant recipe for capturing the incomparable charm of Venice or the stunning structural integrity of medieval Tuscan buildings, let alone the fascination of East Anglian skies!
Flowers and fruit are indispensable parts of my work and I devote some considerable time to these subjects .Returning from the commitment to plein air painting, I always find it rather calming to focus my attention upon the intimacy of a still-life composition.
I have many foreign visitors to my studio in Bellagio, Lake Como, and I find it very reassuring that my work is appreciated by so many different nationalities"
Bruno Guaitamacchi March 2005
There is no doubt that Bruno was a master of the classical treatment of landscape and still-life. With work in private collections all over the western world, Bruno has to choose his subjects with infinite care. We were especially pleased that he had painted a new version of the spectacular Via Emilia a Bologna! This was one of the colour illustrations for his large 1998 Highgate Exhibition and it sold on the first day.
Bruno’s many followers were not disappointed with that collection of major and minor masterpieces.
